The heavier foam (more dense) is the result of using more materials, which in turn increases the quality and also the cost. As an example of this – a cubic metre of 23-130 would weigh 23kgs. Hardness Hardness is what you feel when a piece of foam is compressed with the flat of your hand. The hardness is actually tested by compressing the foam and measuring how much force is required to do it. Using 23-130 as an example, the 130 is the measurement of force in Newtons required to compress the foam to 40% of its thickness. Resilience This is the amount of ‘bounce back’ a foam has. For example; two foams of equal hardness may have varying resilience due to their density, such as 36-100 has increased resilience over 16-100. Dacron Dacron (also known as poly-fibre or wadding) can be purchased by the metre or by the roll and can also be laminated to your cushions for a puffier look. Loose poly-fill is also available. Crumb Foam Crumbed foam is available in 750g bags or 5kg bags.
